Another Year, Another Team

Joe Smith and LeBron James

Former #1 pick, Joe Smith, is now joining his 10th NBA team. Smith chose the Atlanta Hawks over returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He signed a one-year contract for the veteran’s minimum.

The 6-foot-10 forward/center will likely back-up the young Al Horford. He should be able to provide leadership and is still a very solid bench player that you don’t have to worry about off the court. Smith would not have received much playing time in Cleveland as they signed Shaquille O’Neal & Leon Powe this off-season and already have Zydrunas Ilgauskas & Anderson Varejao ahead of Smith on the depth chart.

Smith has played the ninth most NBA games among active players and has averaged 11.6 points and 6.7 rebounds over his 950 game career.
