Favre Re-Signs with Packers!

Ok…maybe he didn’t sign with the Green Bay Packers, but would anything really surprise you at this point?
According to ESPN, Brett Favre will sign a contract with the Minnesota Vikings pending a physical for $10-12 million. As usual with Favre’s fake retirements, practically half of the NFL off-season stories have been regarding him coming out of retirement. Personally, I am glad it is all over.
The signing of the 39-year old automatically puts the Vikings near the top of the Super Bowl race. The Vikings have had the #1 rushing defense for the past three years and won the NFC North last year with a 10-6 record behind the 37-year old Gus Ferotte and current starter Tavaris Jackson. Football guru Ron Jaworski says, “they are the team to beat in the NFC.”
By the way, they have this running back by the name of Adrian Peterson who finished second in rushing in 2007 (his rookie year) and first in rushing last year with 1,341 yards and 1,760 yards, respectively. He is only 24 years old and is playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.
I question how well Favre will do this year. I know the Vikings play in a dome and he had arm surgery in the off-season, but he struggled mightily last year with the New York Jets at the end of the season. Not only did the Jets finish 1-4 in their last 5 games, but Favre’s TD:INT ratio was 2:9 over that same time period. His TD:INT ratio over the last 12 games was 10:18, which is horrible as well.
The signing of Favre also has huge Fantasy Football implications. He is usually a top-10 QB statistically. Along with Peterson and fellow RB Chester Taylor, the Vikings have breakout TE Visanthe Shiancoe, Shiancoe’s well in doubt package, and Florida rookie WR Percy Harvin (yes, I know Florida receivers suck in the NFL).
Favre has been named NFL MVP three times and is a 10-time Pro Bowler. He holds the following all-time NFL records: consecutive starts by a QB (269, 291 including playoffs), games started by a QB (269, 291 including playoffs), career passing TDs (464), career passing yards (65,127), career pass completions (5,720), career pass attempts (9,280), and career interceptions thrown (310), along with several other milestones.
Once again, I am glad it is finally all over and I know I am not alone. Off to Favre 3.0…
