Who Let the Dogs Out?

Sorry…too soon?
Screw it. Mike Vick (I feel a subtle name change would be good) is now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed a 2-year contract today with financial terms of the deal undisclosed. Technically, the contract is a one-year deal with a one-year team option.
After serving nearly two years in federal prison for conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, Vick is back in the NFL. He was originally suspended indefinitely by the NFL, but Commissioner Roger Goodell lifted the suspension should he sign with a team. There was a catch though (of course with Goodell). He can play the final two preseason games, but can’t play in the regular season until Week Six. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. I thought we didn’t have double jeopardy in this country and he just served twenty-three months in prison…yes, PRISON! Trust me, I hate what he did, but he served the time that was handed to him.
So back to football. Why the Eagles you ask? I am not completely sure (they have perennial Pro Bowler, Donovan McNabb, and 2007 second-round draft pick, Kevin Kolb), but maybe the Wildcat formation that the Miami Dolphins used so effectively in the NFL last season could be it. After all, Vick has averaged over 50 yards rushing per game throughout his 74 game career with the Atlanta Falcons. He also led the NFL in rushing yards per attempt in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 2006 (his last year in the league), he threw for 2,474 yards & 20 touchdowns and ran for 1,039 yards with a ridiculous 8.4 yards per carry.
The people of Philly sure voice their opinion so it will be interesting to see how this new addition is perceived. I can guarantee one thing though…this Eagles team will be exciting to watch. Along with McNabb and Vick, they have another Pro-Bowler in Brian Westbrook and drafted WR Jeremy Maclin from Missouri with the 19th pick & RB LeSean “Shady” McCoy from Pittsburgh with the 53rd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
